essexbasscat
Hi all, So my brother came around yesterday with a present, a Wesley 12 string guitar. My brother saw it in a skip and pulled it out for me, knowing how I mess about with these things. Looking at the front, it appears very presentable. The neck is comfortable and appears to be straight. The sides are intact and unblemished. The only snag is that the back panel of the guitar has been smashed in ! There's a sizable area of wood missing from the back panel, but all the bracing is still in place, which makes it easy to relocate them to original spec on a new panel. Question is, where do I source some plywood, or a solid panel of wood of instrument grade ? Thanks all T

Mr. Foxen
Wouldn't get too hung up on the 'instrument grade' thing. Means someone looked at it, binned the sheets with knot holes and doubled up the price. Ebay is good for small quantities.
tommorichards
This place seems reasonable http://www.tonetechluthiersupplies.co.uk/v....html?TreeId=

Thanks tommorichards ! Jack, I should have known someone would do that, but it still made me laugh ! Mr. Foxen, yes you're right, it's not worth going overboard on this project. It's my first attempt at doing this sort of repair to a guitar. I'm confident doing fret dressing and a refret or two, but this is a step into the unknown, so something of a voyage of discovery really. henry norton
David Dyke Touchstone Both do mail order and in spite of being in business for decades, they don't charge the p#ss taking prices you often see for tonewoods on the internet (unless you want South American rosewood ) They can give you some advice if you need it too. Al Heeley
+1 for both the above - used in the past for fingerboards and flame maple laminate. David Dyke is a very helpful guy, worth a phone call.
