Moos3h
Hi folks. I love my SWR Workingman's 15, but it's a bit heavy so am contemplating a replacement driver, perhaps a deltalite or kappalite? Anyway, it needs to be 8 ohms and i'd like to be as efficient as possible. The SWR has quite a decent sized cabinet, the external dimensions being: 20.75"W x 27.625"H x 16.25"D Is this a good idea? Bad idea? Nothing wrong with the fitted speaker, but always looking for more volume and a little less weight! Thanks in advance, James
Mr. Foxen
Ported? and port size?
markstuk
It will fit :-) Whether it's better or worse will depend on the enclosure (google for WinISD) ... And you won't get your money back... I put a 3015 Kappalite in my old Ashdown MAG300/15 combo a while ago.. I thought it sounded better, and was lighter, but not £100 (rather more now!) better... Moos3h
Yes, a slot port at the bottom, about an inch high and full width, which extends by about 8-10 inches inside the cabinet. Thanks!
Mr. Foxen
Buy a Kappalite right now, you'll probably being able to flip it for more in a bit.
stevie
Replacing the OEM speaker in most bass cabs is usually a very good idea. This is because most bass cab manufacturers skimp on the drive unit, as they know they can get away with it. There are not very many bass cabs on the market that you couldn't substantially improve by fitting a pro driver. Whether you will actually save weight depends on whatever is in your cab at the moment. Cheap ceramic speakers are not terribly heavy.
