tommorichards
Im having a look around, and i could do with some input. In order for me to get a shine on my bass body, i need a rubbing compound without silicon, so does anyone know where i can get some. Im looking on ebay, but im not sure about anything specific im supposed to be looking for.
Al Heeley
What's the finish?
Delberthot
Normally on a painted surface rubbing compund will make it really dull. Its used mainly on cars and stuff but I've used it to get rid of small scratches in basses before - just don;t rub too hard or you'll take it back to the wood I use silicon free car polish to polish my painted basses Edited September 12, 2011 by Delberthot
KiOgon
If you're just looking for a polish? I can recommend something rather good & where to get it!
tommorichards
Its a clear acrylic finish. Ive used 2 cans of the b&q stuff. Ive gone up to 2000 grit, and it shiny, but dull if ya get me. Im looking for a nice shine. And ive been looking for silicone free rubbing stuff, but the ones on ebay dont mention that, so if you have a source i can use, that would be great. Big_Stu
I've found this set to be the bollox, & it was a fine excuse to buy mine from GuitarGuitar. keeptrying
Hi, don't laugh but I've used some buffing pads that my good lady uses for polishing her nails to make them nice and shiny, I was using them on an unfinished neck and it came up silky smooth and quite a good shine. the buffing pads are much finer than 2000 grit, then on a sealed body try a few coats of a hard polish, the type you wax on and wax off like karate kid either one for coated wood from a timber merchant or good a good old tin of car polish should be fine on an acrylic finish.
