deanovw
Hi, I am trying to find out about this amp for someone I know. They are selling it on behalf of a friend of theirs. I have never seen one like it. Is it worth anything really? Thanks,

deanovw
The owner tells me it doesn't work atm. So, is it worth owt? Not to sell, but for me to buy. I don't know whether to try and buy it or not. I know it would need a proper restoration. That could cost a few quid….. I quite like the idea of it but don't want an expensive paper weight. Any advice welcomed.. Thanks,
daz
Im sure someone here can give a personal recomendation for a trusted old school amp repair guy. Hopefully all he would need is several detailed pics emailed to him, to give you a ballpark repair quote. Maybe you could get the quote before making an offer on the amp. Dont know much about them but i do belive that Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys is using one at the moment for live work. ( After kicking these into touch for it: Orange AD30TC -Vox AC30 -Blackface Fender Twin Reverb ) So they must have something, im sure he could have whatever he wanted. Beer of the Bass
Nice and compact for a valve amp! I wouldn't think the value would be massive, but this would be a nice little studio/rehearsal/small gig amp for somebody.

A personal recomendation is worth a ton of advertising, in my book. So hopefully someone here can give you a pointer. I would put up a seperate message here asking for someone to recomend a vintage amp repair guy who really knows what hes doing, that they know or have used themselves. Subthumper is in Bristol and does amp work for me. If I had it, I'd fiddle with it myself and hassle those two for instruction.

Billy Apple
I've also heard this guy is good... http://www.chambonino.com/selmwork.html It wouldn't hurt to give Matamp a call too, I'm sure they would service it for you. As for price, hmm, well, what does your mate want for it? Then bump him down 20%. Thing is, you don't really know if she's a runner or a basket case. My gut feeling is give him no more than £200, and then maybe expect to spend the same again. IMHO I reckon if you get yourself a little old school vintage valve amp for less than £500, you've not had a bad day.
derrenleepoole
There's a place in Chorley that might be able to do a repair. But I'll be damned if I can remember what it's called. Its near the railway line, just up from McDonalds on the main drag, down in a basement. Any NW members know it?
Phil Starr
If it isn't working it is a complete gamble. It could be just the valves gone and replacing them will re start it. You'll then need to replace a lot of the other components to get it working properly but it would be worthwhile. If the output transformer is gone then it is a major and expensive repair. Sniff the transformers and examine them for signs of burning or any malted goo/resin seeping out. Old valve stuff like this is valuable when working though. Dave Vader
If you're in Cornwall, Matt who used to run Mojo guitars in Falmouth is a good guy with a valve amp. Not sure how to get hold of him these days, but I know a chap who would. Let me know if you need contact details.
