I wouldn't pay £27 to see anybody.
Local but name line-ups round here charge from £15-22 for gigs, so I wouldn't say the MM gig was exhorbitant..

You pay your money and take your choice. No big deal.

Get your back sorted... so you can go do great gigs and not wince too often..!! :)

I know the number of a great russian lady whose sorts all that sort of thing.............. :)

Had a call from Stevie earlier and he has taken on board the comments and it is now simply £25 On-Line or On the day at the door, if tickets are still available.
It WILL be a full day from 12:00 midday to 10:PM and there will be another 4 live performances in addition to Marcus Miller and the Trade will be well represented. As Stevie is now on organising his 7th, (I thought last year was 7), Bass Day and believes this will be the best one yet, I tend to agree. BOTW has an awesome sound system and it could turn out to be the perfect venue.
More to follow as the planning unfolds with some surprises, I am sure.

Thanks for keeping us informed BB. Things are looking a little brighter then. But like i mentioned before, I would go wherever it was held, and whatever the price (within reason) as i enjoyed last years so much, and was one of the faithfull few who stayed the entire day ( I left after Billy did his bit, just before the draw was made. Had to catch a train)

Being as he is now on the schedule I would be a fool not to go and see MM with anything less than an open mind. My only annoyance was the date being chaged seemingly to just put MM on the bill. (which obviously made the RNCM unavailable as it probably already had something booked for that date ??)

But its done now, so thats that. I hope to make the aquaintance of some of you there. The only one i recognized last year was DooD.

I like some Marcus Miller, but not enough to have ever bought any of his CDs. Given I have to choose between bands I go and see that charge half as much he does that I actually like enough to buy their CDs, given I can't afford to see all the ones I'd want to, it just isn't worth it. He'll be doing this for years to come, and certainly when I'm in more of a position to pay the IMO fairly high asking price.

He's a really good clinician too...very entertaining and knowledgeable, not to mention
great playing.

Which is exactly why Stevie wanted him for BassDay.
For me the best test is to bring my wife to the gig.
She doesn't care at all about bass guitar and does not know who's playing.
Feedback from my wife:
Marcus Miller -> brilliant , cool, funky & stylish
Jimmy Haslip -> complicated, not my cup of tea
Stanley Clarke (double bass) -> too classic, wouldn't go back
Victor Wooten (with Bela Fleck) -> boring
Richard Bona -> magic !

It's about the music in the end. Stop being bass players when you go to the gig. Enjoy the music (whether it is over-slapped or not) and gather feedback from people who are not bass supremacists.
Same apply to your gigs.

Ciao!
You do realise your wife just picked the fit blokes :)

Marcus is a phenomenal ALL ROUND musician - and he rocks as a clinician too, something I filmed quite a few years ago when he played the old Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTJrngd1p3g

He might slap a lot, but he never looses the groove - and that's the difference

if there was anyone in the world i would want lessons off if would be Mr Miller...

his slap is him, and is what hes known for.... but his fretless and finger style is amazing.. i cant deny i would love to hear an album of his compositions on a fretless and fretted playing JUST fingerstyle.. now that would be something..
