24th fret sounds "wobbly" - beating

When playing the higher frets on my bass (detuned to drop c) on the C string above the 12th fret notes start sound wobbly like they're beating...but the tuner says my intonation is spot on!

Any idea why this is? It's starting to drive me a little potty.

Ghost or wolf notes. There's not much you can do... try weighting the headstock, maybe a shim in the pocket (and action re-adjust back to normal), a new neck will in all probability get rid of it but is it worth it.

Lower the pickup nearest the neck.

i was going to suggest the above. It seemed to solve a very similar problem on another forum.

I had a similar thought once I thought about it. I'll give it a try in a few days. Can't change the sound of the bass atm as in the middle of recording.
