Jah Wobble. Any fans?

It's true, you don't hear much about him here.

I liked some of the PIL stuff - the repetition and riffing over noise and notes dropping suddenly out the chord at the end of a phrase were very distinctive and noteworthy.

Unfortunately, I haven't enjoyed the new-age, 'ethnic' jamming of his regular band - all mystic drones and lumpen groove.

This has been a good thread, thanks guys. When I first started it off I thought there might me some anti-Jah Wobble snobbery that crept out. He's not the most technically flash player, but he knows the essence.

I'm a big Wobble fan, he turned me onto playing bass with the grooves from PUblic Image Ltd.
I too have had the chance to chat to him a few times and he will always give you the time of day.
I followed him solo and caught him live whenever I could from the Human Condition up to the Invaders and a bit passed that... I could of been his no1 fan lol.
Since I stopped smoking the Jazz weed a good many years back I find it a bit harder to get into hypnotic music and haven't really follwed a lot of what he has done in the past 10 years or so.
The guy layed down some of the heaviest bass sounds I ever heard live and was never dissapointed in his groove or sound live.

Great song! I have 2 versions of it on 12" "one of the lads" and then it came out again as "another one of the lads" I heard that it was Youth from Killling Joke that played bass on it but that may of been it's second incarnation.

I'm a big big fan. One of the reasons I play at all. Seems completely mad and not everything he does comes off but he's turned out some of my all time favourite albums before we even get to his bass playing.

I have just noticed the 'youtube' version of Passage to hades' sounds like its been played though an old tin can compared to the cd coming through my old fashioned[i] huge floor shaker [/i]style speakers. So some people who have not heard him may well be wondering what on earth all the fuss is about ?

I have this 3 CD retrospective of his work, most of it is really good and worth picking up if you're new to Mr Wobble, he has a great hypnotic feel to his playing.

Thats the CD i was on about playing on floor shaking speakers. I was lucky and picked it up on one of the Second Hand Amazon dealers for a meaSLY £5 37 Great tracks, some of them 10 or 15 minutes long too. NOW THATS WHAT I CALL V.F.M.
