whats the best bass tone you have ever heard? no music no go..... please..

for me the tone on this Louis Bennedetti track..(Gene Perez on bass) is the best tone ive ever heard.. low down punch, growl... ok hes a master groove player and it helps, but what a tone.. how the hell does he get that growly bloody awsome tone..?? its a Jazz bass by the way

This is also just amazing tone.. bad... ass... there aint knowone who plays quite like Meshell

As arrogant as this might sound (it's not meant to be though), my favourite bass tone is my own at the moment! 51m0n has mastered the Kit Richardson EP I'm on and I just adore my bass tones, there is some of Si's magic going on too, but boy, I love it so much that I am going back to Warwick basses. I'll post a link when the video's out in the next couple of weeks.

I wasn't liking my warwick's tone when playing it- and then I heard someone else play it and it blew me away.

Nah, it's Corvette $$ I stupidly sold to Jam. There's an older mix on Soundcloud but you should hear it now! It knocks my socks off! I may be getting a rather special Warwick soon but I need shot of the Status first.

Sorry for the mild thread hijack, but how do you have it set up normally (electronics selection wise). Rather special? I've noticed a ltd ed and an SE floating about the FS section, or is it something altogether different?

It's the neck pup in humbucking mode, going through a POD X3 LIVE.

Great tone, but for me with Paul its more about his technique and melody. I bet around 5 years this tone wasnt as popular, but Ive noticed a major shift, even from non-P players, to a more 'woody' old Fender P bass tone with flats. Granted, a lot of players on here etc have been doing it for years, but it seems to be stretching back into the high popularity stakes.

Its good to know as long as you can play, you can get that tone with a decent P bass and flats.

Thats happened to me a few times! I sometimes get disillusioned with my tone and then someone else plays my bass, I dig the sound and hey presto .....a partial cure for GAS! (Yeah right...a cure for GAS...lol)

I honestly am so arrogant that I think my bass tone is the best ever. Have a listen to this which is a recording of my old band re-recording our songs in April. There are mistakes etc but just listen to that tone!!

That is a good tone mate :) There are two aren't there? I like the tone in the staccato math bits a lot!
