LITTLEWING
Just started using my ESP Ltd B-55 again after yearning for the old passive sound and thought I'd bounce this query off some other heads - when I roll the tone control down towards 'dull', it starts mudding off as normal, but the last 10% of the pot goes quiet to nothing like a volume control. Everythng looks okay in the control cavity, nothing touching or anything. What's happening?
Ou7shined
It could be that the final part of the pots track is messy. Give it a blast with some switch cleaner (NOT WD40) and a good twiddle.
jeremysmyth
I had the same problem. It turns out they'd wired the tone control incorrectly. To fix it, you'll need to get out the soldering iron and fiddle with the tone control. The tone control is wired like this from the factory (on my one anyway): To tone booster -----O-/=====\ From bridge volume --O-| Pot | Capacitor -----------O-\=====/ The cap's other leg is grounded on the pot. To fix it, do this: (disconnected) x x x O-/=====\ Capacitor -----------O-| Pot | From bridge volume --O-\=====/ To tone booster ----/ Make sure the cap's other leg is still grounded to the pot. Now it plays like it's supposed to! Edited January 30, 2014 by jeremysmyth
