Darkstrike Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Anyone here tried them?! I was working up a Thomann order, with some strings in it(mostly DR coated), and spotted them in the list, now I usually don't mind spending for better quality, but I certainly have no problems with value for money stuff, or a good deal. At the price differences, I could get 20 to 30 packs for the same price as 5 DRs. So, any good, or a waste of money? I remember hearing a rumor that the "made in the USA" sets are either repackaged D'Addarios, or made by them. Quote
acidbass Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Hmm - how bad can they be for the money? If you got a gig or two out of them, they'd probably pay for themselves. Might buy a few sets to test them, let us know how you get on! Quote
Darkstrike Posted September 27, 2011 Author Posted September 27, 2011 That's what I figured, pretty much, long as they don't feel rough, and have a spot of brightness when new, they'd be a winner. Quote
simon1964 Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 (edited) I doubt Thomann are making their own strings, so I guess these may well be re-packaged strings made for Thomann by one of the recognised brands. They've got to be worth a try! Edited September 28, 2011 by simon1964 Quote

Darkstrike Posted October 12, 2011 Author Posted October 12, 2011 I picked up a set of them last Monday, just got around to popping them onto a bass. First thing, they didn't fit my 35" scale Roscoe, the taper on the E started before the nut, oddly enough the rest were fine, though it was a close thing with the B and A, so I'd imagine they wouldn't do for string through. They're not really bright out of the pack, no Daddario shimmer here, but they're not bad by any stretch. I'll see how they play over the next few days, to get a better feel for them. Quote
