bremen Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012
Yes me too. Rehearsal room now provides back line etc so just taking bass and a clip on tuner makes life easy On another note ( pun very definitely intended ) if the low E struggles can't I just check that it is accurate at the fifth fret as an A or third as a G etc ??
Harmonic at the 12th fret. Quote
dave_bass5 Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Ive got the Planet Waves headstock tuners on my gigging bass and it does the job fine, I dont tend to use it more than once per gig, but for doing a set up etc i really love the Peterson Strobo clip tuner. It seems to be more accurate, or at least shows more accuracy. Not cheap though. Ive also got a Snark but thats just as a back up in my gig bag, the PW is just so small and unobtrusive compared to the Snark. When im bored at gigs i sometimes turn the tuner on and play word games with the notes lol. Quote
dave_bass5 Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Oh, i didn't realise i was already following this topic and that its an old thread. Sorry if im repeating myself. Quote
Silvia Bluejay Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 (edited) Thank you all for your advice, guys! I received my D'Addario Planet Waves mini tuner this morning, and I've just tried it. Good points: - The adjustable clamp - very clever - Reversible display for us lefties - Tiny! Slightly less good point: - Still takes a while, and/or a few plucks, to decide if my B string is in tune or not. (At least, though, it doesn't have problems with the E string.) Excellent buy for a little less than £12 and free delivery from Amazon. Edit - the tuner wasn't touching the strings, even if in this photo it looks like it is. stoker Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 The one I'v got take a while to detect the E but otherwise works very well. No idea how much it cost as it was a prezzie from my parents a couple years ago. Quote
Silvia Bluejay Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 (edited) I still need to try mine on the 4, and the fretless 5, and the upright (if the clamp can fit somewhere). I'll have a little fun tonight Edited December 13, 2012 by bluejay Quote
dave_bass5 Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 I believe that they become faster if they are clamped close to the nut. I certainly noticed a difference going from the tip of the headstock to just behind the nut. Quote
Silvia Bluejay Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 I'll try that too, later. The string spacing on 5ers might not help, though. Quote
arthurhenry Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 My Planet waves clip on sometimes takes a while to detect E. It's also a bit of a struggle finding a spot for it on a Tele headstock with a D-tuner. Quote
ead Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Planet Waves item works fine for me E to G, but also when I had a 5-string it coped with a low B. You need to find the most resonant part of the headstock for optimal effect or tune with harmonics (or both). Quote
gub Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I use a eno one at gigs and it really struggles with the E , going to use tuner on my B2 unit in the future I think ! Quote
dannybuoy Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Can't believe nobody's mentioned the Korg Pitchclip? Around £8 online, I bought one for use with my Kala U-Bass and it works brilliantly. Not tried it on my electrics or with a low B though since I always have a pedal tuner hooked up there. Quote
