RIP Cliff. His playing was the first time I actually heard what a bass guitar could do. Prior to that it was all 'dum - da - dum'

I was about 13 or 14 and a friend lent me his tape of 'Master of puppets'. Good times, sad loss.

One of my "Things to do in life" is go and sit near his memorial stone playing Anesthesia or For Whom The Bell Tolls, as well as actually visit his memorial. Although he died 9 years before i was born, so i never got the chance to see him, he's still one of, if not my biggest influence, and the reason i started playing bass. R.I.P. Clifford Lee Burton.

Gets a doff of my cap, albeit a day late...

Cliff was one of the reasons I took up bass and later went off kilter exploring the work of Bach and others.

Regardless of what people think about his playing, he was a hugely influential bassist and highly creative at a time when the vast majority of metal bass players were content to just chug along in the background.

R.I.P. indeed.
