Grand Wazoo
Even if I had the cash I'd rather give it to charity than spend 100 grand on this http://most-expensive.net/bass-guitar Edited September 28, 2011 by Grand Wazoo
tonyf
I'd have had it if it had one more string. Or fretless. Or one less string. Or was passive. Or a maple neck.
charic
I'm pretty sure it used to be 150k. Wonder if somebody actually tried it. It really is beautiful though
Ou7shined
What a cheek. I wouldn't pay more than 90 grand for it.

Hmm, could this technique involve carving bits of seasoned wood into the shape of a musical instrument??? Edit: ...or does he wind his pickups slightly hot like Strad used to.... Marlat
That thing sold ages ago. If plays anywhere near as good as my Ritter I'd buy it if I had the spare cash. I don't think it actually sold for $100,000. Jens makes a lot of stuff "because he can", but its all very much playable art.
lemmywinks
I wonder how much mammoth tusk is. It should probably be illegal seeing as ivory is, what with mammoths being slightly rarer than elephants.... Just think - each time you file the nut slots you're taking hundreds off the value of the bass!

Actually mammoth tusk is used on some very expensive string instrument bows. It's used because you don't have to kill a mammoth to get the ivory whereas you normally have to kill an elephant if you want elephant ivory. Darkstrike
Furry with big feet?
Oh yeah! Ask Mr Graham about furry big foot tone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yq8VZDz5lEc Mammoth tusk nuts will do these sounds without the octaver. muttley
Ostentatious, vulgar, ugly and just plain stupid. The "Most Expensive" guitar, OTOH, has some credibility.
EdwardHimself
I can see why he went for 10,000 year old ivory; you wouldn't want to risk it being too close to 1947, might get a bit contentious.
flyfisher
It's not a guitar, it's a piece of jewellery. Just like gold-inlay and diamond-encrusted Rolexes are not watches.

BigRedX
This bass was $100,000 when it first came to attention here back in 2008. At the time the exchange rate was $2 = £1, and I pointed out that my (then) boss had just spent the same amount (£50,000) on a new car. I know which of the two I'd rather have and which would also have kept it's value better.
