sneakinhysteria
Body: http://www.flickr.com/photos/holgerschueler/6191273949/in/photostream Hi all, couldn't resist and got this one at a local shop in Reading for £160 It plays nice and doesn't sound too bad. I'm curious to figure out what it actually is. There are no tags, names, serial numbers or anything on it. It looks aged so I'd say its probably 20+ years old. The truss rod cover was a rather pathetic attempt to DIY a Rickenbacker plexi TRC and it's gone now. Bridge will be replaced by a MIJ bridge that looks more like the original Rickenbacker bridges, knobs and pickguard are ordered. The current PG is made of plywood with a thin white layer, rather fugly and also looks slightly DIY, Pickups are my biggest headache as they are the least authentic looking bits left after my upgrades. Any suggestions? I know that RIC purists loath attempts to make copies look more like the original but I admit, I do it for the looks and I don't care as long as I can't justify buying an original. Thanks, SH ps: will provide more pics and take off PG soon.

Musky
It looks very much like one of those unbranded Chinese made basses that you get on tradetang.com. I say unbranded but very often they come with a Rick TRC, so the one you've got may well be original! I doubt it's an old bass as, with the exception of the rather horrible Kays, they were all more accurate copies than the one on your hands. It might be worth your while PMing Mr Foxen about getting your hands on a more appropriate bridge. Edit: Link to similar bass on tradetang http://www.tradetang.com/for-sale/wholesale-retail-Free-shipping-electric-guitar-Red-pickguard-/104826-2404167.html Edited September 29, 2011 by Musky

I since acquired a japanese bridge copy and some other cheap replacement parts so will see how I get on. The bridge pickup will remain my biggest headache, the looks are just appalling. Need a cheap clone that looks more authentic.
Soloshchenko
A working Rickenfaker for £160? You've got a bargain there I'd say. No idea what it is. Where is Jon Bassassin?

Musky
You might want to take a look at the mirrored Pickguardian surrounds if you don't get lucky on ebay. http://www.pickguardian.com/pickguardian/RICBridgePUPlate.html Marry it up with a Kent Armstrong toaster and Bob's your uncle. Probably have to do a bit of filling with that mudbucker rout though.
