willyf87 Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011
Why is offering more options pointless? Seems sensible to me.
What I mean is why go to all the trouble of calling it something different why not make the black top range with choice of neck body shapes/woods etc. Quote
dave_bass5 Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 I get your point but with each new model offering various options as well i think it could get very confusing for the buyer. Quote
TransistorBassMan Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 I don't care what they call it, a Jazz with twin humbuckers is what I want. I prefer Jazz necks to Precisions, which is why I never went for the Blacktop Precision. Coda Music are advertising the Jag at £336.00, the Tele at £400.00 and the Jazz at £400.00. Quote
Lylodile Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Love the tele hate the jag. I prefer the old Japanese jaguars look wise (red with matching headstock...) Quote
hillbilly deluxe Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 It cant be long until Fender release a 70's style Tele bass with Mud/P/J configuration, preferably in Magnolia with White p/g...............i'd buy one. Quote
danhkr Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 At below £400, I can't see them being Mexican. The blacktop stuff is cheap, this is even cheaper and bordering on Squier VM/CV series prices. They're also bringing back the 'original' japanese made jaguar bass (around £800), so it'd be interesting to see how this one compares to that at half the price... Quote
Al Heeley Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 I like the look of the tele headshtock on a bass, the pickups look all out of proportion though. The jag body looks too bloated, the dimensions ofend me and there's nowhere near enough fiddly slider switches for a jag, but I love the neck and block inlays. "Modern Player" ? The name is truly knobby Quote
Davout Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Have Fender got a load of spare parts left in the bin & decided to put them all together in a limited range to make a buck ?? Tony. Quote
merello Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 (edited) How about this though? fender-mod-play-tele-bass-new.jpg Edited October 1, 2011 by merello Quote
hillbilly deluxe Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 White scratch plate,P and J pickups with the neck humbucker and we're talking. Quote
Mog Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 The tele is £400 notes @ G4M. Sounds good to me. Quote
John Schoen Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 The Squier VM Tele is a great bass, this Fender version would make it more versatile with the added bridge pickup. It also has four bridge saddles instead of the two of the Squier, this one might get a chance to take the place of my Squier. Quote
merello Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011
Ah I've been looking a pic of that.!!! Whats the verdict of it with a rosewood board. I'm seriously thinking of picking one up (Even 2nd hand down the line) and doing a neck swap with my Dirnt. (Would maybe change the guard to white though. Edit if anyone wants to do a photo shop (Because my skills are severely lacking) If you overlay the Dirnt/50's style guard and telecaster style control plate how do they line up?
Quote
merello Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011
damn doesn't look like the routes will line up. cheers for the shop.
I'd love to say I left the remnants to show you they don't match - I just could not be bothered tidying up! Quote
Musicman20 Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 There is a Jazz with two humbuckers in the email from Soundslive. Quote
GarethFlatlands Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011
Love the tele hate the jag. Problem is, I'm pretty small and wear my bass high so most long, slim looking basses look daft on me. Quote

RussFM Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Turns out the reason they're 'cheap' compared to recent Fender prices is they're Made In China! Quote
hillbilly deluxe Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011
Turns out the reason they're 'cheap' compared to recent Fender prices is they're Made In China!
So they will be Fender custom shop quality. Quote
Musicman20 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 MIC Fender's ay! Basically a Squier CV then, but more money. Quote
Delberthot Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 So £273 for the single pickup squier and £399 for the Fender. £126 for an extra pickup, pot and a Fender decal. Nah If they'd put the Squier decal on it and said maybe £325 then that would seem fair enough. A lot of made in China stuff is scarily good so I'm sure this will be a corker. I wonder if this is Fender slowly removing the Squier range and replacing it with all Fenders since we already have the Cheapy nasty Fender Starcaster Jazz junk. Quote
Stu-khag Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 With all these different bass variations here's to Fender re-releasing the Bass VI! Quote
krazy_olie Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 It think Fender Fender's design team is a bloke with a few buckets containing bits of card that say things like "jazz pickups". Fender do make some top notch basses, just a shame they can't be bothered to apply their skills to something genuinely new. Quote

Doesn't what we have available now do a good enough job? Quote
