gjones
Saw a guy playing an Ibanez Roadster from the 80's what a sound! Does anyone own one? Lucky you if you do! What a fantastic punchy bass. I wants one! Here's what they look like http://www.escapeact.com/richbass/ Edited October 1, 2011 by gjones
jumbo
LOL . That link is actually my old Roadster, 1979 RS800. They do have a great tone, however, they are a heavy beast and the neck dive was quite bad.
hillbilly deluxe
The are great, although i prefer the P pickup type.

Guest Jecklin
nothing to do with me, but saw this and thought of this thread: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ibanez-Roadster-Bass-RS800-Rare-and-Vintage-1979-incl-soft-case-/140613482967?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item20bd3779d7
Guest Jecklin
Oh yes While I remember, the bassist from Supergrass used to use a P type pickup roadster and it sounded ACE!
GarethFlatlands
Weird, I suddenly had GAS for one these yesterday as a cheap P alternative. Didn't manage to find a reasonably priced one so it's another guitar on the list of stuff I want but don't need.
Highfox
fwiw, I had one of the p-bass types yonks back, was the first bass I brought brand new. Sounded pretty good had a really nice action and plenty of punch. I ended up lending it to our drummer and never claimed it back. Wonder if he still has it? lol. Passive with one pickup near the bridge. I'd buy this one if I could justify owning another bass. Edit - In fact I think the one above on Ebay and the one in this thread are one and the same http://basschat.co.u...ster-valuation/ Reading his latest thread about a noisey pickup I don't think I'll bother bidding on it after all.
Ha! Yep - it is mine.. The pickup is noisy, but no more than the guitarist's brand new fender tele, so I don't think it's particularly the pickups at fault.. Probably more the electrical interference in our rehearsal space combined with the fact they are vintage single coil pups. However, I can't be 100% sure. Reason I'm selling on the bay rather than here is there wasn't much interest last time I put it here, and I didn't want it hanging around too long (in case I change my mind about selling it!) It wasn't the pickups that made me sell it - just the fact I've picked up an Ibby Blazer which suits my sound better (and is significantly lighter!). jmstone
.. Oh and if you wanted to hear what my one sounds like, it's in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbt60pf02ks Sound was just taken straight from the rehearsal shown (no post-processing etc.)
