daz Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 (edited) The main thing is its a different shape than Krst's main Gibson bass from the Nevermind era. (although i am pretty sure it plays a hell of a lot better: ) and all for $2200;(or when its gets this side of the pond £1500) (yes I will admit to hating Gibson for no discernable reason whatsoever. The bass looks ok id like to hear one but whatever it sounds like it'll be too expensive for my DHSS skewed tastes) Edited October 1, 2011 by daz Quote
Musky Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Looks good. Unfortunately I'd imagine it's going to be closer to £2000 when it hits these shores, when you factor in VAT and import duties. Quote
retroman Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Saw one on the GAK website last night. was about the £1100 mark if my memory serves me right. Would love an RD, but where are the Moog electronics?? Looks like this one is just straight passive. Me thinks I will wait for an original to turn up . Looks good though Quote
cocco Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Isn't the bass he's pictured with an ibanez? Quote
cocco Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 The only thing I don't like about this is the sig on the headstock I can't stop looking at it! Quote
lemmywinks Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 So he used to occasionally use an RD Artist during the Nevermind tour so they do a sig model that is an RD Standard with totally different pickups to any RD ever produced? I agree that a Ripper would be a better sig bass, maybe Ibanez should reissue the Black Eagle? Quote
lemmywinks Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011
The main thing is its a different shape than Krst's main Gibson bass from the Nevermind era. (although i am pretty sure it plays a hell of a lot better: )
It's an old (70s?) Ibanez, so probably a better bass than a modern Gibson! I think Krist had a few of them, one had a bit of the headstock snapped off. I used to love those basses when i was a kid, obviously a bit rare and thus out of my price range though. Quote
Ou7shined Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011
...I agree that a Ripper would be a better sig bass,...
I thought that it was going to be a Ripper before I opened this thread. I really like the RD body shape but for me that style of headstock doesn't suit it at all. Quote
The RD I had (a '77 Artist) looked even odder because it had small Gotoh-style enclosed tuners, original Gibson branded ones though (and no other tuners had ever been fitted to it) but they made the headstock look even longer and out of place. Stunning looking basses but impractical for 99% of the songs i played! Quote
bartelby Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 For that money I'd rather buy the Kurt sig Fender Jaguar: Quote

stingrayPete1977 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 He didn't exactly cherish any of them other than one Gibson that he used to put safe before smashing up something else moments later, +1 should of been a ripper. Quote

cocco Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Good luck finding a black eagle. I've never seen one in the flesh, or for sale, not many were made I don't think. Im an eagle lover too! I dont understand the pickup choice though, krist was all about proper Gibson buckers as per the ripper and RD basses. Also surprised it's not a ripper shape. Not that I'm not stoked that it's an RD! cocco Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 I really want it. The more I look the more I fall..... I don't care about the signature anymore. Quote
andysleigh Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 big want! but for the moeny id rather buy a secondhand RD Artist. and i wish they had made it 34 1/2" scale, as it was. not 34 " Krist used a standard ocasionally, which he put some jazz pickups in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3limq8huF80 and more recently http://youtu.be/WYy8hz-7Cqw Quote
Toasted Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Didn't Krist play an Ibanez / "Antoria" "Black Eagle" much more than any of the gibsons? Quote
Gust0o Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Would have preferred the Ripper, but am still keen! Quote
Cosmo Valdemar Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Would it have been so difficult to get the headstock right? They've just cobbled on the one on the current SG bass. I won't mention the pickups. A missed opportunity to properly reissue a classic and sought after instrument. Quote
