munkonthehill Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 yeah it seems a tad cheap to me... Like BB said, if genuine this is one hell of a bargain Quote
uke Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Yeah, saw this the second it came on, but I know nothing about vintage Rics! All I know is there were some great copies! a friend got badly burned with an early sixties one! Makes me very wary. Quote
Geddys nose Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 The bridge looks a little short looking at the photo, perhaps it just the photo. Quote
Musky Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011
The bridge looks a little short looking at the photo, perhaps it just the photo.
I think it's just the light, or rather lack of it, in the photo. The raised bit a the rear of the bridge disappears as it's not catching the light. I don't think this is a fake as the fingerboard is orangey, as on genuine Ricks. 'Fakers all seem to have darker rosewood boards like you see on Fenders. Though that may also be a trick of the light. More detailed pics would be needed to be certain; some fakers did have the twin truss-rods but AFAIK (haven't made a study of it, just seen a lot of threads) there wasn't a faker that had the twin truss-rods AND the break in the binding behind the bridge. I'd be wary entirely because of the price, in good nick you could ask for almost double that price; my only other thought was that the binding looks a bit thinner than a Rick's should be, but again that could be the light. hairyhaw Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Nah, I think it's real. Think it's priced low to shift quickly. I wouldn't be paying much more than 750 for anything from that period anyway. Quote
Big_Stu Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Were Ricks from that time dodgy as well?? Gibson & Fender 70's QC is well known to be bad. Quote

hairyhaw Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Pregnant upper horn and odd late 70's headstock? No, I wouldn't pay anymore than 750. Quote
