Stag Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I need a new strap on..... my bass. I have a bit of history with a dodgy back / sciatica and I dont think my current strap (lovely leather branded Ric one) is doing me any favours. Can anyone out there point me in the direction of a good comfort strap? The only one ive found so far that looked proper nice was the Gibson Fatboy strap, but that was £80 which methinks is somewhat excessive for a small piece of cow exterior. Quote
Delberthot Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 (edited) I used to have loads or trouble with regular leather ones. Even really wide ones would cut into me or just really hurt after a while and I'd end up switching my strap to the other shoulder at gigs until I got my Brooklyn gear one from Stringbusters As far as I know its very similar, if not a rebranded, Comfort Strap Had it now for 6 or 7 years and it still looks good as new and comfy as anything. Even with a rather heavy mahogany Warmoth Precision Edited October 6, 2011 by Delberthot Quote
Big_Stu Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I bought a Minotaur one going cheap on their stand at Music Live in 2002 & it's still going very strong. Mine is a plain brown one & now costs €35 according to http://minotaur.gr/catalog/index.php?cPath=28 Quote
xgsjx Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Bad back? Drill a 1/4" hole in the lower horn (towards the middle a bit) on your bass & get a monopod for a camera & attach it to your bass (or a tripod if you want to go for a walk without your bass). Now say goodbye to that hideous strap & remove those ugly knobbly buttons. Quote
discreet Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011
I bought a Minotaur one http://minotaur.gr/c...ex.php?cPath=28
+1 So did I, and you can't get better. I got the vintage brown one: Quote
MuckedUpFunkies Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I had the same problem until I found Mono straps. http://www.monocase.com/mono-gs1-betty.asp Memory foam padding etc means I literally cannot feel the weight of my jazz. Quite pricey at £40-50 but trust me they are WORTH IT! As your in Norfolk try Norfolk Guitar and Bass centre Dan Quote
janmaat Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I once had a talk with a woman on a market stall who was making beautiful leather corsets & suff, she told me she had custom made straps for players with serious back problems. May be worth considering that option? I am certain more can be done - you don't have to stick to just a strap, for example, but could have two straps in a more backpack-like construction. Quote
Happy Jack Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 http://www.darestrap.com/ http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Planet-Waves-Dare-Strap-Black/DGY As a seriously cheap alternative to Comfort Strapp and Mono, this thing is really very good. By spreading the weight evenly over both shoulders, it massively reduces back and neck pain. By 2-way clipping it turns back into a single strap within seconds. Worth a try. Quote
bartelby Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I just use these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-MADE-3-75-WIDE-BIG-SOFTEE-REAL-LEATHER-GUITAR-STRAP-/200642385542?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item2eb737d686#ht_2069wt_766 Tried a Mono but suffered from neck dive with it, on my Steve Harris P. Sold the strap got another of the ebay ones and problem solved. Quote
AntLockyer Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 http://www.levysleathers.com/product;cat,828;item,662;Straps-PM48NP3 I got one of these for my Aria which is super heavy. It's much better than the regular Levy one I had before. Quote
