Happy Jack Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Just in case you were wondering who placed the first bid ... Quote

EssentialTension Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 I'd be interested if I had some spare cash. Quote
Legion Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Dangerously nice things those mice eh. I keep catching myself considering them as well. Quote
Happy Jack Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Personally, I blame chris_b for it all. He's spent the last two years saying nice things about Rob Allen basses, and I'd never even heard of the bloody things before then ... Quote
chris_b Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Go for it Jack. I should have just got a bank loan when I first started longing for an RA. I'd have paid it off by now and had a few years playing the bass, instead of still sitting here wishing!! Quote
BigRedX Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Just a word of caution if you have a "physical" playing technique... I've tried a couple of Rob Allen basses now and while they played, sounded and looked fantastic, the amount of handling noise that my playing style generated rather put me off. Happy Jack, I believe that you've owned a Lightwave bass at some point so if you had no problems with handling noise from the piezo pickup on that you should be OK. Me I can't turn it up above 1/4 for it to be too obtrusive. Quote
Happy Jack Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Hmmm ... good call. The reason I moved the Lightwave on was that it was "too transparent" and did too good a job of advertising my mistakes. Luckily enough, I'm now a much better bass player and I don't make any. I'm only buying this one so that I can trade it with Clarky anyway ... Quote
Clarky Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Oi! Keep me out of this. I am on a mission to reduce my bass gear arsenal right now, in any case (1 acoustic bass, 1 amp and, err, 1 pickup sold in last week) Quote

Happy Jack Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 No worries, Dave, though I suspect there's a general chicken-counting thing going on just now ... I haven't won the auction yet. All the same, if I do win it then I suppose this bass might eventually become part of the extended Basschat family. Quote

Happy Jack Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Sorry Chris, I made up my mind on how to use eBay some years ago ... once I decide how much I will bid, that figure is set in reinforced concrete, surrounded by barbed wire, and guarded by machine-guns in watchtowers. Another one will turn up eventually. If it's a 5-string then you can arm-wrestle Owen for it. If it's another 4-string, then we'll see if I do better. Quote
EssentialTension Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 The last one on ebay went for about £1300 too, IIRC. Quote
