Lovely Rob Allen fretless - get in!

Just a word of caution if you have a "physical" playing technique...

I've tried a couple of Rob Allen basses now and while they played, sounded and looked fantastic, the amount of handling noise that my playing style generated rather put me off. Happy Jack, I believe that you've owned a Lightwave bass at some point so if you had no problems with handling noise from the piezo pickup on that you should be OK. Me I can't turn it up above 1/4 for it to be too obtrusive.

Hmmm ... good call.

The reason I moved the Lightwave on was that it was "too transparent" and did too good a job of advertising my mistakes.

Luckily enough, I'm now a much better bass player and I don't make any. :)

I'm only buying this one so that I can trade it with Clarky anyway ...

No worries, Dave, though I suspect there's a general chicken-counting thing going on just now ... I haven't won the auction yet. :)

All the same, if I do win it then I suppose this bass might eventually become part of the extended Basschat family.

I'd be interested if I had some spare cash.

I'd be interested if it was a Deep 5!

If it was a deep 5 I would already have contacted the owner and he would have cancelled the auction because I would have bought it.

Sorry Chris, I made up my mind on how to use eBay some years ago ... once I decide how much I will bid, that figure is set in reinforced concrete, surrounded by barbed wire, and guarded by machine-guns in watchtowers. :)

Another one will turn up eventually. If it's a 5-string then you can arm-wrestle Owen for it. If it's another 4-string, then we'll see if I do better. :)
