Me and my band tried these exercise today in a jam. It's just brilliant for awareness and growth. Defiantly recommend trying this its enjoyable and challenging no matter what level you play at! Steve Lawson Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 that's an excellent video, thanks - I've used bass-ified versions of all three exercises, both in my own practice, and for teaching. Still do - really useful stuff. That snare solo at the end is awesome! I wanted him to keep playing for another 5 minutes like that Steve Quote
Sibob Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Very cool, completely with Steve on the snare playing at the end . Thanks for sharing! Si Quote

RhysP Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Great drummer, found him a bit creepy though. I can see the value of the excercises, but you'd have to be quite disciplined (not to mention imaginative) not to simply fall back on familiar patterns & phrases when undertaking them. Quote
I see where your coming from but I think thinking (poor English there) logically about your common used patterns in a theoretical sense could be so advantageous in terms of new ideas so I don't think that's really a problem. More of a challenge. And the more of them the better! Dan Quote
There are other exercises for developing your imagination. And what's wrong with discipline? I would think a lazy and unimaginative musician wouldn't be doing this in the first place. I tried this last night, it was interesting how I just jabber on the bass sometimes and can't repeat what I did, once i started thinking more about my phrasing, it became easy to repeat. I think it's a clever exercise. Quote
Mykesbass Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Interesting video - will work on some of those ideas this evening. Now, where do I find a drummer like that?! Quote
