soopercrip
Evening all. Just won this http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1438.l2649 and I'm looking to refurb and reinstate it, or if it's too bad condition than maybe a makeover (feeling some Gibson cherry red with the pickup style). Dunno what do you guys think? Postage is a bit long winded, but there's no rush Andy Edited October 21, 2011 by soopercrip
4 Strings
Quite like the sunburst actually, but I suppose its a safe option. I'd have to see (see? why not hear!) what it sounds like before investing too much time and expense. Its a great shape though, Mosrite sort of thing. Very JE! soopercrip
I can't find any info on them anywhere, all google comes up with is a bass player called Sakai and a P bass copy on a forum. Anyone know anything about them? Maybe it's another plywood copy but it doesn't look like it is. Guess I'll have to wait and see what I get. LiamPodmore
I'm feeling a green or red sparkle/flake finish with matching LED's (Okay, maybe a bit farfetched) on that myself, just as nugget seems to be. Liam

Even if it is, we all need a noodling banger lying around on which to play around when watching the box etc.

soopercrip
Was also watching this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260869412309?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Which finishes tomorrow. A nice bookmatched solid piece of maple or sycamore and maple board, but looks like it's been chucked down three flights of stairs. Had a word with Jim Donohue about it (He's aN Ibanez Guru on old stuff, nowt on their website) and he reckons they're ok. Already over my budget, but could be nice for a project? soopercrip
Well it's arrived and looks in bad shape. Scartchplate is like a colander, pups are all over and look pretty wasted, bridge and neck dont line up (note exposed earth wire, and 'g' string is almost off the neck) Headstock has just got to be reshaped, it's almost as big as the body! Neck wants re-shaping where it meets the body (screw hole is where the strap pin should be I think). Nut has been butchered, fingerboard is, well let's just say it isn't. I reckon it's fill in the gaps re-shape and paint, new hardware, pups and scratchplate. Maybe I should have just bought a kit (rolls up sleeves), off we go..... Andy Er, having a prob uploading pics, (insert numerous expletives here) wont be long.... 2nd Edit why wont the pics load??? Just keep getting an error message Edited October 21, 2011 by soopercrip

Nibody
The bridge is definately wrong, looks like it should have a Gibson LP type on there (probably why the strings are at a jaunty angle. Also looks like its the wrong neck to me, whats with that heel!!! You want something like this http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3a4d763e79 and this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CHROME-TUNE-O-MATIC-BRIDGE-BASS-GUITAR-/200637759821?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item2eb6f1414d Edited November 4, 2011 by Nibody

soopercrip
Ay caramba! that poor nut! You got some work do there there methinks......good luck
In the middle of it at the moment. New fingerboard is fitted (some purple heart I already had) and is about to be radiused. Think that is going to dictate the colour (purple) of the body, which has been 'softened' some. Still waiting for pups/bridge/machine heads to be delivered so I can set out the body before paint. Scratchplate is nearly made (white pearloid) and yes theres a new nut to fit. And the heel has had a reshape Nibody, so has the headstock see what you think shortly. Time to do it is where I'm running short at the mo'. Need as much luck as you can send. Will try and post some pics next week. soopercrip
So I've decided on an outrageous paint as a bit of a 'livener'. It's this in purple. http://www.specialistpaints.com/products/passion-canz Anyone used any of this before? 4 Strings
Goodness! Looking forward to the result. That colour is asking for a matching headstock
soopercrip
Headstock is going to match and neck, as it was so badly damaged i've had to fill it. It's a ply body, so at the moment it's- sand fill-sand-fill-sand-primer-sand-fill-etc to eliminate any sign of it. It's an acrylic paint which I haven't used before, always been nitro, so we''ll see. waldemar
That's going to be gorgeous... You're not really going to re-shape the headstock, are you? I think it looks excellent as it is! w./
