tommorichards
In this video, he uses a precision, probably a fender, but what im most interested in is how the amber tint next to the frets got there. I think it looks dam cool, but have never seen anything else like it.
GarethFlatlands
Not sure what you mean. Is it the same bass on the acoustic version of 'Hangin Tree'? First video on youtube for that song, looks like the same bass.

[attachment=91399:Picture 1.png] It seems to me that it's where the lacquer has come away and has got dirt into the pores of the wood. Quite what's caused it is anyone's guess though. Maybe it had a ham fisted fret job at some point?
Doddy
It's just wear on the maple 'board where the lacquer has peeled off and the wood has discoloured. It happens over time and with wear.
tommorichards
Thats the one, but how did it wear away right next to the fret where the string barely touches, its like the opposite of what would normally happen, hence the asking. Mr. Foxen
I think the lacquer cracks round the edge of the fret, and sweat is drawn underneath by capillary action.
Ou7shined
Yep it's sweat reacting with the frets and a bit of finger ming for good measure.
EddieG
Could it not have been refretted at some point, and this is as a result of the refret?

4000
I believe it's a '72 or '73-ish P, FWIW. Also FWIW I had an early 70's P where the neck looked more or less the same. Wear and tear. I love when the old 70s necks go like that. Fenders don't look right without lots of wear IMO.
