Not that I'm clued up at all about these things, but it looks a bit like a Hagstrom to me.

The string retainer, the headstock shape and isn't that a [s]part worn Hagstrom logo? [/s]Forget that - I just looked at the close up.

Definitely not Hagstrom - wrong headstock shape, wrong tuners, although some of them have a bar string retainer it is screwed in from the front, not bolted at the back, not a Hagstrom logo

I've been digging around and it could be Russian or Bulgarian.

There's a Russian guy on the Forum that has/had lots of Russian basses, he might be able to tell you more about it

And it looks like it said 'Craftsman' on the headstock. There is a current manufacturer using this name but I don;t think its the same

[attachment=91434:sakai.jpg]Think it could be one of these (just picked one up on e-bay) although pickup config is different pickguard is very similar and headstock.

It's a 'Woolworths' bass apparently, early 70's

It looks very similar to an Aria A100, which was manufactured by Matsumoku, and these appear with loads of different brands on the headstock. I don't think it's the same bass though - Mats had three piece necks for a start. Soopercrip's would have been an A200, or at least an equivalent.

My refurb arrived yesterday, body style is exactly the same as this ^^^^^^^^ including scratchplate, but mine has two gibson style humbuckers and a kayak paddle headstock. Was going to post some pics but had to charge battery (stands tapping foot and glaring) heres a link to the auction

You were on the right track! It's indeed a Jap. It's a Kinor A100. I bought the same one recently in a very messed up state lol.

Can't find the site were I found it.... When I've found it I'll post the link :)

Just looking at the bridge you are thinking of using. I used a similar bridge as a replacement for a fender type and had problems with getting the string low enough. Bridge sat much higher the original and the action was too high at the lowest setting. You may be ok but check the measurements.

I apologise if you have taken all this into consideration already. Teaching grandmothers to suck eggs is my speciality  :D
