Dom in Dorset
It's a 2006 US standard Jazz, I took the scratch plate off to adjust the truss rod and found a hole... It seems to serve no purpose, it's just over an inch deep and was made before the body was finished. Apart from hiding contraband any ideas why it's there? Clarky
Those holes are commonplace on Fenders. Not entirely sure what they are there for (maybe for supporting the body when its being sprayed?) but, worry not, yours is not 'wrong'
Ou7shined
It is used as an anchor point for the CNC machines during milling. I thought only MIM basses had this.

RhysP
I'm surprised fender don't class that as body chambering & charge another £300 for it.

LawrenceH
The mexi reissues have them but, funnily enough, don't have the large route around the pickup/control cavity. I filled the hole in mine when I refinished. Oh yeah, there's probably a matching hole in the neck pocket. Machines
Yeah, my 2000 MIM Jazz was the same.

Beer of the Bass
Although my Highway 1 Jazz didn't have it, and would have been fine without a pickguard. So there is at least one cheaper option for those who want to look like Jaco.
The Dark Lord
There is a hole in my Jazz bass too. It's a 2010 USA Standard. Here's a pic when I was changing the oem guard to a new black one. Funny enough, I didn't notice the hole.
Dom in Dorset
A black hole no less! Be careful not to be drawn into another dimesion while playing.
BottomE
On my US 2009 fretless i have a hole. On the HW1 i have no hole. I care not as don't want to look like Jaco. I really prefer a scratchplate on a Jazz Bass.
bubinga5
MIJ and CIJ dont have this hole, or any other routing under the pickguard (apart from the pup of course)
Lfalex v1.1
My MIA has this. At first I thought it was chronic woodworm... And in answer to the thread title; "There's a hole in my Jazz Bass, Dear Liza, Dear Liza" "Then cover it (with a scratchplate) Dear 'Enry, Dear 'Enry"

CHRISDABASS
i find it amazing that Fender can't even be bothered to spray the 3 tone burst all the way around the body!
