Rockaction5 Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012
That luthier is one of the guys who was building using Dark Stars and so I guess he can't any longer get them from Fred Hammon so ....
Hello from France, I am this guy and I can't get these pu's anymore... so. I did them for my basses first , improving, if possible, their mounting but I've keep all the essential part of the "darkstar" same magnets, bobine, laminated core and pole piece sizes. and it works! (some new pictures on the site) have a nice day. DR Quote

Rockaction5 Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 some news from the other side of the channel, Jaguar type "DR" with DR re-designed bisonic type pickups. Elected "bass of the year 2012" in the french magazine "guitariste and basse magazine" plus some pictures of these pickups parts :sorry for the pictures sizes... Quote
BigRedX Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Those look great. No need to be sorry about the picture sizes, I'd rather have a good sized, clear photo that takes a couple of seconds more to load than some crappy little thumbnail sized image that shows you nothing. Quote
Rockaction5 Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 For those who know , you'll recognize the same effective parts found in a Bisonic /darkstar... Quote
geoffbyrne Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Rockaction5, many thanks for posting this info. It's always great to see a new and different maker/pickup become available - choice is good Have you considered a 5 string version? G. Quote
EssentialTension Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Looking good. I like the reverse headstock. Quote
LeftyJ Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Curtis Novak is now making Bisonic pickups. They're in the new Guild Starfire Bass too. http://curtisnovak.com/pickups/BS-DS.shtml He also makes one that fits in a Gibson mudbucker housing! Quote

LeftyJ Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 From what I understood, yes. Which seems amazing, as the new Starfire bass is fairly affordable considering the retail value of a separate CN Bisonic. Quote

But also there's a youtube clip, which I can't find at the moment, where the Guild guy says they bought vintage instruments and sent them to Korea to be reproduced. Quote

Rockaction5 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Hello everybody! I'll try to answer to everything (life death and so on... answer will be... 42... joke) - "Have you considered a 5 string version?" yes, just ask , give pole spacing and I 'll do it. - "Curtis Novak is now making Bisonic pickups. They're in the new Guild Starfire Bass too." false : Curtis novak make one bisonic "clone" for sale at a certain price... they are not intend to be first mounted on the new guiLd bass . - "He also makes one that fits in a Gibson mudbucker housing!" true... and quite false, the one Curtis mounted inside the EB mudbucker is more a big P90 than a real bisonic system, no sandwhich core, no adjustable pole pieces, different magnet, different bobin geometry and different bobin ohm value, it's still a bass pickups though... See picture somewhere in US Talkbass forum. - "wow... turn the headstock the right way, stick an old style bridge on that and paint it a solid colour and that might be the bass of my dreams based on looks!" well, contact me for an order and you'll get it right (beside this, this one has a set and carve adjusted neck) (see picture) and finally here's another "DR" bisonic housed in a PAF pickup cover for mounting on a "special" EB bass... A friend of mine was at the Messe in Frankfurt, played the new Starfire Bass, and spoke to both Curtis Novak and a Fender representative. I thought he'd said Novak makes the new Guild Bisonic pickups, but you're absolutely right. Sorry for the confusion! Quote
