Bo0tsy
Hi Any suggestions of some easy funk basslines to practise? I have successfully got my head round the main riff for Herbie Hancock's Chameleon (which is fun but pretty straightforward and kinda indicates the level I am at), but would appreciate any other good suggestions. Thanks!

BassBunny
Try The Meters "Cissy Strut", in fact most of their numbers. George Porter was an awesome player.

tinyd
Nipple to the Bottle by Grace Jones has one of the simplest but funkiest basslines ever. LawrenceH
Some of the 'easy' funk lines are really tricky to nail properly. If you think funk's easy, and you're not into funk...then you can't play funk. "Shack Up" Banbarra "Mango Meat" Mandrill
LawrenceH
"All Night Long" Mary Jane Girls There's a LOT of good stuff in Pete Academy's epic long funk and groove thread
Kelso
'Just kissed my baby' - The Meters 'Kissing my love' - Bill Withers Straight, simple and funky as! I play the latter in my soul band and I'm currently trying to introduce The Meters number into the set somewhere. Hope you like them! I started off listening to more reggae and Robbie Shakespeare, but his Grace Jones stuff led me into listening to more funk. His playing captures for me what bass playing is all about - economy and groove!

funky_numba
Well done for nailing down a fav of mine 'Chameleon'. I had never heard of this song until I went to a 'chill-out' bar in Glasgow. The 4 piece band that played this were truly superb!! I was at the bar getting the drinks and when I heard this song I had to ask the band leader what they were playing. A seemingly straightforward bassline but still sounds amazing!! Still need to have a go at it myself!! How did you learn to play it? By reading music or just working it out yourself?
