I vaguely remember reading something about the bassist using a russian muff somewhere. Does that sound about right?

Any other recommendations that will get me in the same sonic ball park?

Thanks for any help.

P-bass with a pick to start with from the live vids I've watched. Not sure on the effects.

Good call incidentally, I was listening to their stuff on the way to/from work and his bass tone stands out. I like his sound on 'Lapsed Catholics'.

Yeah 'Lapsed Catholics' is great. When I saw them live, he used a P-bass through an Ashdown ABM head but I didn't get a gander at his pedals.

Apparently the new bassist is using a fredric effects green russian muff live so I might have to see if I can get my hands on one of those.

All I want is a bass tone that sounds like it wan't to kill everyone in the local vicinity.

Check out their previous band Mclusky too if you haven't already. Highly recommended.

Looks like a green Big Muff, Boss Octaver and a TU-2 in this shot. http://www.popmusicology.com/userimages/user-386203_1170288368.JPG

Nice sound he has in that clip. :)

I got a Fredric effects harmonic percoalator off ebay for about £50 and I've seen the big muff clones on there too. Sellers name is 'timhulio' and I think he's the guy that makes them as he always has Fredric effects stuff for sale although no muffs at the moment.

I've heard bits of McLusky but never got into them massively. Saw them live at Reading many years ago although didn't appreciate them as much as I should have at the time.

Edit - you've reminded me of a gap in my music collection and the 3 disc version of McLuskyism is downloading from Amazon as we speak.

Enjoy. Some great stuff on there. First time I heard 'random celebrity insult generator' I creased up with laughter.

I'll keep my eye on that ebay store.

How have you found the harmonic percolator on bass?

Only tried it on guitar for 1 practice so far, it's a really good sounding pedal, on a par with my modded Rat in terms of distortion pedals I've tried.

I think the lack of a blend control might let it down on bass. It also seems to have less low end but it might work well. I'll give it a whirl when I can.
