Clarky Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 During my research into DB sounding acoustic basses recently I came across these German basses, Stoll Acoustic basses. Not cheap (> EUro 2,000) but beautifully put together and absolutely humungously large! Posting in case anyone is interested Video of one in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jD7s4W5QIr0 Quote
Muzz Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 How far away is that? Seriously, he does look a bit of a tool playing that...just doesn't work, somehow... Quote
gary mac Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Would nicely disguise and diminish the look of my ever expanding gut. Quote
Now there's an idea! Wonder if they do one with an extra deep recess in the back..... I'd feel like i was 18 again! Quote
Raggy Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Don't think I would be able to pogo up and down with one of those on stage!! Quote
pete.young Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 The double bass is the size it is for a reason. Quote
henry norton Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Kind of like a modern take on an Ernie Ball Earthwood. It would be interesting to see just how loud this is when it's played acoustically. Quote
Jondeeman Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 My first acoustic bass was a Dean Playmate, and getting around that used to be difficult for the shoulders and arm. This thing looks too big to play this way. Surely a spike and an upright style would be more ergonomic? Quote
Clarky Posted October 21, 2011 Author Posted October 21, 2011 Here it is played standing up. Looks like it will swallow him! Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Blummin' 'eck! Eric Pickles has turned into a bass. Quote
henry norton Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Looks like the law of diminishing returns to me. If you're plugging it in you might as well go for a smaller body - once they get to this size you're more than half way to a db anyway, a body that big will still sound like an acoustic bass guitar and looks like it still needs an amp to get reasonable volume out of it. Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Actually I'd love to have one of these - if only to feel like one of the borrowers when playing it. Quote
Clarky Posted October 21, 2011 Author Posted October 21, 2011 Now this is just getting silly Quote
