seashell Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 For the past few weeks I've been feeling as though I'm suffering from Chimp Finger Syndrome. Everything I played sounded horrible. Felt that practising was just preventing me from actually getting any worse, rather than helping me improve. Anyway - tutor's response last week was to give make me do something even harder! He got me playing 'Black Dog' by Led Zep. I love it so much I just can't stop playing it now. OK, so I'm doing it at about half the speed and keep missing out the hammer ons (or should that be 'hammers on'? ). But it amazed me to hear something coming out of the amp that bore a faint resemblance to Black Dog, and to realise that I was doing it!! I'm so pleased with myself I just wanted to share with you all. Quote
TheGreek Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I'm sure we've all been here..getting through plateaux can be really frustrating yet rewarding once you've done it.. Quote
charic Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Nice one Sometimes a challenge is the best thing for it! Quote
KevB Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 That's excellent, always good to feel you are progressing in some way. I think I realistically peaked about 10 years ago and probably won't get any better (and I'm very very average at best) but occasionally there's something that just won't work out quite right for ages and then miraculously seems to fit into place and it's a little victory. If Black Dog is a good workout get an accurate transcript of The Lemon Song and give that a go. It's a bit of a beast from what I recall! Quote

icastle Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Chimp fingers aren't too bad when you consider the other chimp parts you could have ended up with! Quote

EdwardHimself Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 That's great news SS. Personally if I hit a wall I just tend to wait for it to fall down but it's probably not the best way of improving quickly. Quote
