So if I bid and win, entering into a contract to buy this bass, he will say "[i]No, I never meant to sell it through eBay[/i]"?

I have absolutely no doubt that this is a breach of eBay rules, but it also strikes me as a dangerous tactic for the vendor.

Guy "selling" a Reverend Rumblefish by listing it at 99p on eBay while adding a link to the music shop in Oxford which was actually selling it for him.

His description told people not to bid, since the bass was only for sale through the shop.
