Hi all,
Wonder if anyone who owns a Yamaha TRB bass with humbuckers has had a similar problem to mine?

I keep having to adjust the height of the rear pickup as the top of the pickup is getting too close to the strings - I'm not sure if it's an issue with the sponge underneath, or if one of the screw holes needs filling and retapping?

If anyone can help, would be very much appreciated :)

Cheers,

Hi - not experience that before, but if the pickup keeps getting higher then the screws must be coming undone, most likely the vibration making them unwind. I would try and fill the screw holes to make the screws tighter.
Good luck

do you (like me) use the top edge of the pickup cover as a thumbrest?

Hi Steve,
I do indeed. Do you think this could be part of the problem?

well if youre heavy handed like i am then the weight of your thumb/hand combined with the slight rocking motion against the pickup is going to pull against the screw maybe - youre basically pulling against the strings so there will be an approximately equal opposite force going through the pickup/body where the tip of your thumb connects with it and unless you play with your hand absolutley still then there is going to be 'some' leverage against those screws

maybe a combination of that and what nugget says above - sounds like you might need to plug the screw holes with some slithers of wood to pack the screw in tighter

I had a similar problem with the front pickup on my TRB-II 6 string. The screw kept coming loose. I stuck a bit of matchstick down there and that gave something for the screw to grip on to and it's been fine since.
