Anyone had a go on one? I can't imagine that'd be much different from the rest of the SR range, but I find the active pre-amp quite interesting. Have a look at - http://www.ibanez.com/BassGuitars/home Tweaked Ibanez house pickups instead of the Bartolini MK.!'s and different neck materials but probably close to the classic SR500. A friend of mine has one, they are nice, similar feel to the SR 300 and 500 as the body and neck are almost identical (they may actually be identical haha!) He has the same one you linked too, and it looks VERY nice under normal lighting very silky and deep and on stage looks black and purple striped almost very cool! Classic SR sound from the pickups, i like it a little more than the MK1's but i seem to like Ibanez house pickups! The ceramic magnets add a kind of "hardness" and edge to the sound (not a full on in your face, but with Celestion speakers and a little bit of anger you can get a real mean hard sound) but it does soft and warm great. Neck pickup can sound quite P, the bridge quite J but mixed it's that kind of scooped mellow sound not so much a P+J sound. IIRC the pre-amp is decent (i think it's similar to the one in my BTB676) so can give you a reasonable amount of cut and boost but isn't too powerful to totally change the character of the sound you have from your hands and pickup, it doesn't have the intense treble you can get on many active EQ's even maxed (i find) it usable (but i have loads of treble in my sound but) and the Bass control can really get things phat. The mids control can get you that generic or classic depending how you see it slap or metal tone with no mids or can give you a little mid hump but if you find your self lacking in mids and you've got the bass/treble well up then you're out of luck if you aren't using one pickup solo'd. For the price i'd say it's a great bass, as are the rest of the SR's up to the 700 line if you're shopping on a budget and what not. Plus if you wanted later you could change the EQ for something with a more even response if you decided you wanted more/less whatever!
