Mudpup
Can anyone id this bass? Havent seen it in the flesh yet. All i know - its a Spector, 4 strings, amberburst. Looks like a neck thru model, EMG HZ pups. Dont know if its active or not. Thought it was a Legend Custom 4 at first but the hardware is the wrong colour i believe. Thanks for any help. Mudpup
Thats great thanks silentbob - it appears to be a NS20004. I'm gonna mail Spector now i have collected it and have the serial number to confirm it. Its thru neck, active eq, brass nut, EMG HZ pups. Gracias
ern500evo
It is a spector NS2000, they were built in the Korean factory around the year 2000(hence the name), passive EMG HZ pickups with an active Tonepump tone circuit. I think the one's with that quilted sort of finish were called NS2000/Q4. I've got one identical to this, i've had it from new and until a couple of months ago when i bought a Warwick Streamer LX it was my main gigging bass. They are really good basses for the money, especially what they can be picked up for second hand, and the price doesn't reflect the build quality, i can't fault mine. It only got relegated to my back up bass because i'd always wanted a Streamer and one came up at the right price at the right time. They are quite heavy but that was never much of an issue for me. I know some Spector owners aren't that keen on the Tonepump but i always got on ok with it. Have fun, they are lovely to play.
Mudpup
cheers ern500evo confirmed what i thought although i think the Q prefix is a bolt on neck version and this is a neck thru version - i cant get over how good it plays and sounds (and i'm not letting on how much i paid for it! ) do you happen to know if they have the dip switches on the preamp to alter the mid settings? thx Edited October 30, 2011 by Mudpup
ern500evo
Sorry i was having a blonde moment then, the Q prefix models are bolt on, don't know what i was thinking! Mine is a neck thru model, as for the dip switches i'm not entirely sure tbh, If you email PJ at Spector he's a really helpful guy, i emailed him the serial number off mine as i was unsure of the exact model (it was a present) and he emailed me back within the hour with all the details! As mine was a present i'm not 100% sure how much it cost but if i recall correctly these basses retailed in the UK at the time for under £500. Even at that price they were good value so at second hand prices they really are a bargain. As i said mine only stopped being my main gigging bass because i bought a German Streamer but i'll never part with it, and if for whatever reason it becomes my main gigging bass again i'd have no problem with that at all.
