Vinny Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Big fan of Great White but the original's certainly the better version, Hunter really gets across the been-there-done-it attitude in the song. Quote
MacDaddy Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 well as my formative years were in the 80's and I dug that whole scene, Great White all the way for me Quote
BigRedX Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 'allo... Never heard the Great White Version before. Typical metal musos. The over-complication of the intro riff shows why they just haven't got the simplicity and elegance of the original - most of the time less most definitely is more. Also when the bass kicks in after the chorus on the original the song switches up a couple of gears. On the GW version your hardly notice it. Having said that though I found the Quo version equally pedestrian and dull. Quote
steve-bbb Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 ...from a biased Mick Ronson fan .... Great Sh*te more like Quote

Cat Burrito Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Never liked Great White although I did like some 80s Rock, back in the day. I am sure there are those who do prefer Great White. Hadn't heard the Quo do it Quote
it's what they do best! I saw them about 4 or 5 times in the early 70s, when they were fresh but YEEGADS they 'aven't 'alf spanked it. Great White - not keen on this one but I do quite like 'Rock Me' Quote
EssentialTension Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Never heard of Great White but Hunter & Ronson I like. Quote

KevB Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Yep GW did some decent stuff for the genre they were in, their singer used to be able to pull off an uncanny impression of Plant when they did Zep covers. Rock Me is good, so is Face The Day. I think it was GW that were involved in a gig where their pyros set fire to the roof in an upstairs venue and some people died, someone might be able to find a link for it. As for the OP, prefer the Hunter version too. Quote
