Ghosts Over Japan Posted June 12, 2007 Share Posted June 12, 2007 (edited) ok guys, ive just started with my new six string bass and i cant really find many six string bassists to inspire me, so far ive got the dream theater (john myung) songs and im currently work on them i also write alot of my own stuff so some solo artists are quite handy but the noticed ones are usually sick like adam nitti lol i have absoultly huge hands so i can reach the B string with ease so dont worry about that do you guys know any fairly good six string bassists, (in a band or solo artists) that are good to check out for learning material??? and im not particularly bothered about what type of music the pay as ong as its fairly busy and not really boring to play! cheers guys x Edited October 14, 2007 by cai! You have mentioned John already. There are also those who have gone beyond 6.. but essentially, it's the same instrument.. Yves Carbonne, Bill 'The Buddha' Dickens are just 2. I have picked up loadsa 6er players on myspace.. so feel free to hunt through my friends list and see what you can find. I met quite a lot of ERBers over on TalkBass and they added me... especially a 1 John "I own nearly every Conklin made" Turner. Really nice bloke who helped me buy my own Conklin a while back. Steve Bailey (as dood suggested) is a really cool 6 string player, maybe not your thing though if you're into John Myung and Nitti etc. Erm...players who also use a high C (not neccesserily a 6 string, but 5 strung E - C)...Janek Gwizdala, Tony Grey, Victor Wooten (4 strings, A - C), Matthew Garrison. There's players like Anthony Jackson, Todd Johnson...these are all predominantly jazz players, but they make the high C sound lush!!! As well as the people mentioned above, I'd like to add a couple of jazz sixers - Mike Pope and Todd Johnson (the master of jazz chord arrangements). For higher number of strings, my personal fave is Yves Carbonne - I think he's now on 12 (or maybe more) and it's fretless. Regardless of the visual "wow factor", his intonation is near perfect and he's playing some beautiful compositions. Trip Wamsley has also done some beautiful music on 8 string.
