Isn't it strange - I always tell myself that I am only allowed as many basses as will fit on my stand. I have one of those racks that [i]are made to[/i] hold 5 instruments.

But I currently have 7 basses balance precariously on this rack

Technically I'm not breaking the rules that I set for myself but do you guys think it's getting a bit silly now?

I started off with that intent - a x7 rack for basses and 2 guitars and strictly 'one in, one out'. Funny how 'rules' change to 'guidelines' so quickly... Now I keep the extras in their cases.

One of my other passions is mountain biking. On mountain bike forums the rule is:

Ideal number of bikes = N+1 (with N being the current number of bikes)

I believe this could apply equally well to basses.

Its all BC's fault though. I came here with 2 18 months ago and now have 10 Im already thinking of another build.

And if you want another excuse 7 is an odd number 8 feels much better, or 10 or 12 etc etc etc

I'm up to 8 after a very recent purchase which is yet to arrive. Well technically it's 7 1/2 because I have a body with no neck but I'm selling the spare jazz body and one of my other basses to make 6. Nice even number

Theres always a nice fretless, double, jazz, p bass, 5 string, 4 string etc! I'm down to one electric and one upright, but I've owned loads over the years!

You have to spend your money on something I guess :-)

N+1 applies a lot easier to basses, they're easier to hide and all "look the same"

I've got a double gig-bag. They're great for hiding all sorts of things.

A mate of mine, a guitarist tried this one. After promising his wife that he wouldn't buy anymore guitars he found he still had that 'old itch that can't be scratched'. Being a crafty devil he got round his promise by buying the component parts separately and assemblying the guitar himself. His claim was that he hadn't bought a guitar, he'd bought bits of one. I don't think they spoke to each other for about a week when she worked it out.
