Cheap as chips but strangely impressive stats...

http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_ba500h.htm 500W RMS into 4 ohms for £206 !

That's way more watts than a TC Electronic RH450 :)

It reminds me a little of this:

I have that. Great amp for the money.

3 year thomann warranty should allay any fears over quality - they're top notch to deal with. Probably made in the same factory as the Ibanez Promethean!

I've been intrigued by those amps for a while, you never hear much about them - the only person who I know has one is Paul up there /\ /\ /\ - but you'd think they'd sell loads, even just as backup amps.

The 250w one was even cheaper too.

Seems more Bugera than Ibby.

Based on...? Bugera don't have an equivalent product that I'm aware of, and that's not the way they work anyway. They straight out clone other manufacturer's designs.

The HB brand function by getting manufacturers to supply the guts of their own products and repackaging them - the Epiphone Valve Junior being one example. HB just repackaged the guts of the VJr and added a tone control, but the PCB actually says Epiphone on it. There was another amp very similar to this one available a while back... Was it White Horse or something...

I remember seeing a site where the guy who designed the Promethean discussing his amp designs...

It is :)

They're made by a company called Beta Aivin who decided to make a few extra after they made the promethean for Ibanez

Basic components. To be clear I didn't mean Bugera in a bad way. TBH, as I've said countless times on here, I've had more trouble with supposed highend gear than with Bugera.

Through the same cabs will it perform as well and sound as good though? :)

Guess? I'm sure most 'D' class power amps use stock parts.
If the HB is made by Beta Aivin, and they also made the Promethean heads, then it's likely to be as reliable.

I would guess this amp isn't very good and wholly unreliable.
[/quote]

Well mine sounds great has never even come close to me even having to consider it's reliability. I switch it on, turn it up and it sounds fine. I play it through a Barefaced Compact and couldn't be happier.

The clipping lights do come on a tad early if I crank it up but with no audible clipping and with no nasty side effects as yet.

You sir, are rubbish at guessing :)

Have you ever tried a Harley Benton ? :)

Not yet, no. That's why I would not take cheap shots at it :)
