Hobbayne Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Just got my VM Jazz back from my tech following a setup, and to have the nut re cut. He suggested that I upgrade the pots, as they are rather crackly and a bit cack. He also says the there is a bit of a kick at the top of the neck! Not wishing to appear an idiot, I just nodded. What did he mean by this?? Quote
Hobbayne Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011
Could he have said "kink"?
No, deffo said kick said it was quite common in Fenders Quote
icastle Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Not heard 'kick' used in context with a neck issue before. Perhaps it's just a colloqialism? As for the pots, I'd be inclined to squirt a couple of pence worth of switch cleaner in them and give them a bit of a clean out - it can work wonders and save you having to spend money on unnecessary replacements. KiOgon Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 (edited) Probably a reference to the ~ shape caused by the truss rod, so the last few frets 'kick' up a bit. Have you got a 2' steel rule or similar straight edge to lay along the frets & check? Edited November 1, 2011 by KiOgon Quote
WalMan Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Had the same with the first L2500. IIRC we ended up with a refret and shaving at the top of the neck which helped with the action Quote

Hobbayne Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Cheers chaps. its not a problem as I never have to venture beyond the 12th fret anyway. The switch cleaner is a good idea, i,ll give it a go! Quote

It was more like a Curly Wurly which had been left in the sun Quote

Mr. Foxen Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I think it means the ski ramp you get at the end of the neck, sometimes blamed on the shim and tightening the neck too hard down on it (I'm not convinced). Quote
