elsharko
So I own this Shuker contraption and its lovely. But for the life of my I cant find strings for the thing and Jon himself isnt even sure whats on it. I bought it 4 years ago and havent changed them yet but would like to for my next tour. Its 36 scale and uses proper double bass strings with a bar at the bridge end. The machine heads are normal bass guitar size though so the stings need to be short enough to have the thin end to string through. Any specific suggestions for suitable strings? Thanks

yorks5stringer
"Its 36 scale"- I assume that means 36"?
TPJ
A few makers sell strings for 1/2 and 1/4 sized instruments. These may work. I think Corelli do some. Edited November 23, 2011 by TPJ

fonzoooroo
1/2 size double bass is 38" scale length, while 1/4 is 35.4 http://www.gollihurmusic.com/faq/2-SIZES_DOUBLE_BASS_SIZING_FAQ.html I'd be looking at 1/4 size, though obviously, a string designed for a longer scale length will result in a lower tension... Most easily available would probably be Pirastro Piranito, but plenty of others available. What happens at the tailpiece end of your bass? The length of silk at that end of the string may cause an issue. A bar at the tail end says it's unlikely to be Thomastik strings that're fitted - they have ball ends.
