allighatt0r
My Yamaha has a pan pot to pan between the P and J pup, but the bass gets much quieter (like half the volume or less) when the pan knob is centred. I know it's common for a bit of a volume drop when both pickups are full on with most basses, but this is more than that... I could be wrong, but does this mean one of the pickup polarities are the wrong way round? If so, does anybody know a guitar tech or something in the East Anglian region that could fix it for me? I would do it myself, but I have killed one too many basses with my (lack of) soldering skills... Thanks very much!
gary mac
I suspect that your diagnosis is correct, I'm sure that was the same problem I had with the jazz bass that I had a few years back. Rectified fairly easily, if you can solder or have a friend who can. Sorry don't know any guitar techs in your neck of the woods, but I'm sure someone will be along soon, who does. allighatt0r
In case this will be helpful to anyone, I had this looked at by someone who knew what they were doing, and I was told that the inputs were wired to the centre lugs of the blend pot, when it should have been the outputs coming from the centre lugs. Also, the pot was a bit rubbish due to old age.
