Bo0tsy Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Here's a topic I don't think I've seen before on this forum. What, in your opinion, is the best live CD you've heard by your favourite band/bassist(s)? For me I would 100% vouch for Raphael Saadiq (All Hits At the House of Blues - great singer, songwriter, producer and bassist and a double album of souful funkiness - check out D'Angelo's appearance on disc 2) and also Bootsy Live in Louisville 1978 - the only live CD of Bootsy worth getting that fully captures Bootsy's intense space bass playing. A real tour-de-force. Probably the best and funkiest live CD I have ever heard and one of the reason's I decided to pick up a bass and give it a whirl. Interested in hearing other people's opinion's - (PS: - it doesn't have to be limited to soul & funk! ) Quote
sk8 Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Iron Maiden - Live After Death. Still got the gatefold Vinyl Quote
Yoda Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 (edited) I'm not really a massive fan of live albums, but you'd have to go a looooong way to beat "LIve And Dangerous" by Lizzy IMHO etc... 2nd would come "If You Want Blood" by ACDC Both tick all my boxes Edited November 7, 2011 by Yoda Quote
PaulWarning Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Glad you included the PS, The Ramones - It's Alive there has been something similar recently http://basschat.co.uk/topic/157507-when-a-live-version-is-better-than-the-recording/page__fromsearch__1 Quote

Big_Stu Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 (edited) My fave band & fave music changes quite often; but the mainstay band in my life is or was Slade. Their celebrated live album was Slade Alive which was recorded on the same night as the TOTP show they did with their first number one in '71; therefore in Nod's words "they were on fire that night". Slade do Loving Spoonful PS. To the OP - what the hell is that bass in your avatar???? Edited November 7, 2011 by Big_Stu Quote

Ed_S Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 "Arch Enemy - Tyrants of the Rising Sun" is an absolute masterclass on being a tight metal band, and "Ozzy - Live at Budokan" is likewise for lone guitarists. Quote

KevB Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Made In Japan. Band at the top of their game, genuine atmosphere and some songs are better than their studio counterparts. Also relatively little (maybe even none?) additional studio overdubs I believe so gets high marks for honesty. Quote

Other live albums I love already getting a mention here viz; Made in Japan, Live & Dangerous, Slade Alive (blast from the past there, Darling Be Home Soon, brilliant). But if I had to choose just one it would have to be Peter Gabriel's Secret World, a great band on top of its game with Tony Levin's bass sounding monstrous. It's a great DVD too. Quote
