ZMech
I'll admit the song bored me after a few minutes, but none the less, that bassline is damn good!
bubinga5
i think without his style of playing and growly jazz bass tone, it wouldnt sound half as good..

LawrenceH
Tbh I love my funk but I'm not really feeling this one, too repetitive in the rhythmic phrasing and doesn't leave enough space for me - I can imagine a lot of players doing something v similar but better. However, the tone is wicked - very Sugarhill.

M-N-Y
This is great playing, very groovy. Fans of this style might like to check out Don Blackman's CD, Blackman featuring Barry Johnson on bass. Amazing!!!! I had never heard of Don Blackman or Barry Johnson until I read an interview by Yolanda Charles who recommended the CD. I managed to pick up the CD from Amazon for about a fiver and it's the best fiver I will ever spend I'm sure. The track featured is apparently an underground cult classic. Hope you enjoy it! Pete Academy
If it's the same Barry Johnson, which I think it is, he features on the the album called 'Nard', and is amazing. Marcus produced this album. A must-have classic for bass players.

M-N-Y
Thanks Pete, Apparently 'Nard' was Bernard Wright's first solo recording at age 16!! I am going to try and track down a copy. Cheers, Mark. Edited November 13, 2011 by M-N-Y

Don Blackman is a top , top player - a very busy Keyboard [session] player back in the 80's/90's. I caught him a couple of times with David Sanborn. Great post. M-N-Y
Thanks for the positive feedback Garry. Stumbled across another piece of magic by a bassist called Gavin W Pearce. I think this was the only Incognito track he played on. Monster groove, IMHO. M-N-Y
Must admit Manifest Destiny doesn't work for me from a groove perspective, although the playing is of course excellent. Much prefer the likes of Light Years, Too Young To Die, Return of the Space Cowboy, Mr Moon etc from Stuart Zender's period as groovin' tunes. Each to his own. Cheers, Mark.
