Really cool night, last night at the Zion centre in Hulme, Manchester !
Manchester DJ Dave Haslam chatting with Nile Rodgers about his life, chic, Bowie, madonna and of course, Bernard Edwards!
What a great night, I have a lot of respect for this guy, he's a great musician, not just a guitarist, but an arranger and producer
Second half he got his strat' out and played! Incredible, he talked about why he plays what he does and demostrated regular chords verses his inversions, really cool, he has that sound that is Nile Rodgers, it's in the hands and last night proved that!
A lot of talk about the great Bernard Edwards, he obviously misses a good friend!
And he has just recovered from cancer at 59!

I just love his playing with Chic - the moment when he comes back in on guitar after the breakdown in the 12" version of Good Times is one of my all time favourite 'moments' in music :)

Nile is a bassist's guitarist, if you know what I mean :)

Totally - he knows how to leave space in a groove! He was on Later briefly this week & came across really well. Looking forward to his new book...

Nile Rodgers - where do you start..? His book looks like its going to be a good read.
His intro to this tune just about sums him up, i think his style required an Active, nine volt battery driven right hand technique.

He's a very, very accomplished lead guitarist too but seldom gets the credit he deserves as a guitarist, purely because he can keep his ego in check and play for the tune. Every interview I've ever read he had a funny tale to tell, I'll be picking up his book for sure.

Until we get our hands on his memoirs, check this book out: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Everybody-Dance-Chic-Politics-Disco/dp/1900924560

Opens your eyes up to what your ears already knew - that there was a lot going on with Chic than just disco. Not to put disco down (I am a self confessed disco slut) but they were unfairly tarred with that brush, so when disco's popularity waned, so did theirs. Anyway, check it out - totally worth the price of admission.

Funny. If ask I name him as my favourite guitarist, because to play really good funk you need a bloody good guitarist. A lot of fancy lead players can't hold that down. So we can create big holes in the music and it all hangs together.
And Bernard of course was an inspiration. What a team. will get the book nice xmas stocking filler
