lawriemacmillan Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 (edited) Hi all This is my main touring bass so although I'm based in Scotland, the bass lives in climate-controlled storage with the rest of our gear in Germany, and is taken to wherever we perform around mainland Europe. I absolutely adore these basses. They're the best all-rounder instruments I've ever owned. I used this bass exclusively on the latest Stiltskin album, recorded earlier this year. I'm in the UK right now so I haven't had a chance to capture some nice close-ups, so for any of you who are interested, please bear with me and tolerate these pictures of me with the bass. I've chosen these photos specifically because I believe the bass is represented well in them. I do plan on taking more detailed photos over the next few weekends leading up to the year's end, and I'd like to make it clear I intend to use this bass until the year's end as there will be no opportunity to bring it home for any reasonable length of time. I have owned this bass from new - 'made-to-order' in 2007, not 'in stock' and arrived January 2008. Specs: Sadowsky NYC 5 string. Vintage-Style J. Parchment (mint white) pickguard. Ice Blue Metallic finish. Matching headstock. Alder body. Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard. Sadowsky 2-band preamp with VTC. Sadowsky humcancelling Pickups. Chrome hardware. Hipshot Ultralight Tuners. Hipshot D-Tuner on B string. Removable Pickup cover. 21 Frets. Dunlop Straplocks. Weighs around 8ibs. There are a couple of unconcerning bumps on the body, which I will display asap. Otherwise the bass is in incredible condition for being so well travelled and played. The 4-bolt neck joint is solid and with the help of the spokewheel truss rod adjuster, neck adjustments are quick and effortless. Tonally, this has more natural mids compared to my other 5 string, which has a Swamp Ash Body/Maple neck combination. Unlike the Will Lee model, the standard Sadowsky preamp has no midrange boost/cut, yet panning towards the bridge pickup even slightly is a pretty effective mid boost in my experience. The Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard is stunning. It's much darker than the woods more commonly selected for their fingerboards, and around the upper frets there is a gorgeous streak of red in the grain. The Ice Blue Metallic finish is not a standard option on the current Sadowsky pricelist, and I like that Buying this bass new with its featured specs would cost 4675 USD. I'm looking for 2400 GBP (£). Re - TRADES, I would prefer to close the deal with my asking price, then consider a replacement instrument after, but I would consider a Lãkland Darryl Jones 5 string as a part-exchange with cash difference - preferably in black/maple. Presently, it is transported inside a Ritter gig bag, which is placed inside an SKB Bass Safe. I would provide a Hiscox hardcase in the sale, and also the superb and ultra-comfortable Monostrap - in grey suede. Postage I will discuss with any potential buyers, and would be added to the asking price. This is also featured on my artist page at http://www.sadowsky..../macmillan.html (from when I had long hair..) Here's some live clips of the bass in action. Apologies, I have no home or 'peaceful' footage to hand! rodney72a Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Nice... Is this 1 7/8'' or 1 3/4'' at the nut?
lawriemacmillan Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 I'm positive it's the same as my maple neck 5, but I'll check for sure on Friday!
Nice... Is this 1 7/8'' or 1 3/4'' at the nut?
kasbridge Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Hi, not sure whether you would be interested in a trade with adjustment - the Suhr plays and sounds like a top end pre-cbs Jazz but is better built with none of the foibles.... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/159531-for-sale-suhr-classic-j/page__p__1431466__hl__suhr__fromsearch__1#entry1431466 I tried it alongside a £6.5k pre-cbs in the gallery and this played and sounded way better....
Arabesque-bass Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 WHY!!!!! Why dit my car need to be repaired.... I WANT THIS!!!
shemeckfrac Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Are car repairs in Netherlands that expensive ?
Arabesque-bass Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Half the price of this bass unfortunately :-(
lawriemacmillan Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 Hi thanks for the offer, I'm sure it really is an incredible bass. I will eventually have to replace my bass with another, but that would need to be a 5 string, and since my sale is financially motivated, I think the bass I would accept trades for would have to be priced under £1000. I am considering a Lakland Darryl Jones 5.
