Vocals coming together, half the songs done. Am keeping things simple, just the lead vocal, doubled or octave up backing in some places and the odd basic harmony. It's great putting vocals onto such an inspiring recording - the sax and guitar parts are wicked!

:)

I think we're overdue some more sound bites.

Am getting there! Have just overdubbed various distorted bass tracks to fatten things up on one song and also added shaker and tambourine tracks. Once I've finished off the vocals I'll do some rough mixes and upload them!

Have been going through the mixes adding a little reverb and EQ where needed. Got all the panning and levels sorted. Also been assessing the vocals - about half of them need redoing but I know what to do differently. Am thus pretty close to have preliminary mixes done. Then I'll post them up here and await feedback!

Band came round tonight to lend some ears - really helped out with the EQ and reverb games. And thus, here is the preliminary mix of the centrepiece track - Funeral Song!

(Things to note: I wasn't watching the meters so it's clipping a bit, and the two parts of the song, currently separate tracks will be merged into one track with just a bar's decay after the first part lands on the last downbeat before the second part starts with that bassline.)

If it clips on the input when actually grabbing the incoming track, then you're stuffed and really should re record it

Have you considered monitoring yourselves using headphones to avoid bleed? then you wouldn't be tempted to dig in quit so much.

It's just the master track that was clipping, easily fixed by lowering the master fader when I do the next mix down.

I think I'll do that next time, just need to get an extension lead for my open-ear headphones so I can still hear the drums properly.

sounds good man. i think the vocals and sax are a little exposed. And, dare i say it the bass is a tad to high.

I tend to mix things in groups. For example, the kick/snare and bass should be roughly the same. But for a first mix it sounds good.

Good work

Note for the future - do not post recordings of unfinished products online as negative feedback about the vocals when I'm singing as best as I can is utterly demoralising... However have finally picked myself up and finished the vocals on and mixed down two of the four songs.
