icastle
How about going in via USB using a suitable adaptor? bubinga5
oh, never seen that before... i dont know alot about this sort of stuff.. not sure how that would affect the audio quality of volume?
icastle
Shouldn't make any difference to the overall volume or quality - you're just sending the signal to the same place but via a slightly different route. The only real difference could be that the firewire interface is slightly faster than the USB socket, so a miniscule (and pretty un-noticeable) time lag if you're not using USB 2.0. bartelby
The simplest way is into the mic socket, of course.
xgsjx
Like bartleby says. I A/B'd the results & I'm too deaf to tell the difference between a usb mixer & the mic socket. I'll upload the A/B recording later today.
xgsjx
Got the recording I did uploaded to Soundcloud. http://soundcloud.com/bassg/line-v-mixer-bigroom Says it all in the description. Can you tell the difference?
Noah Deere
I've connected via the USB, got the cable from amazon and it worked fine.
merello
Used to use a guitar lead into a mic adaptor extension pin/socket (£4) - not as good as the Alesis now but still worked.
They are completely different. The first is a greatly cleaner signal, unless you added some effects or noise or something with the Alesis. Are you serious that you can't hear a difference? Edited November 16, 2011 by silddx

My hearing is pretty bad in my left ear & the top end has gone in my right. Too much loud music & grew up in very noisy environments. No effects on the Alesis, just set flat. So if that's the case, sack buying an interface - you get a good clear signal through the line in on an iMac!
brummie
A bit of a late reply but I'm using my zoom B2.1U via USB at the moment and it great in the Mac G5 & garageband.
