4 Strings
Some US Jazzes have string though bodies, others don't. What's the rule? I know Highway Ones don't and the early ones don't. When was it introduced? Any help much appreciated. Many thanks

Lozz196
1995 was the turning point, when, from then on, both lines of (US) Fender basses had string-through.

Tankdave
So, does it make the bass sound different?

Who's Who
On the newer US Standards, what's most peoples choice? String through the body, or through the top load bridge?

[/quote] In my mind it did, as I thought it added depth to the sound. Then, I bought a `77 Precision, without string-thru, and don`t really notice any difference at all. I think what it was that I was comparing string-thru MIA Precisions against non string-thru MIM Precisions. Plus, all the great bass sounds I like - JJ Burnell, Bruce Foxton, Paul Simenon, John Deacon, Glen Matlock - all played Precisions without string-thru. Grassie
I had a '96 Jazz Deluxe V with string-thru and it was great. Sold it a few years ago (to fund a new amp), bought a Mex 4 string (non string-thru) and it sounds as good as the Deluxe. Go figure... leschirons
I used to have a Roscoe Beck five. I always strung it "through body" and loved the sound. However, I did try it bridge strung once and to be honest, I couldn't tell the difference apart from the tension on the low B.
