To my eyes it looks like one of those dreadful 70's plywood finishes. Sorry, don't want to upset anyone, and love the whole ethos of Wal basses, but that is what I'm seeing.

That finish looks better in reality. Well, it did to me the day I wandered into Sound Control, in Glasgow, and saw three of the two pickup versions lying on the floor, on top of their hardcases. Circa '87, and SC was asking £550 for each. Walked out with mine for £480.

I really don't know much about these early models and just thought it looks cheap. That said there's another very similar bass on eBay which looks equally poor. Perhaps it's just an early model, but it looks cheap.

Don't let the finish or the ugly scratchplate fool you, these were more ballsy than the later Wals that so many others seem to covet. I'd have this model over the later models every time.
