But the top two are in favour of different things so can't be conflated.
Not so. They are both in favour of the "like" option. The only division between those voting A & B is that the B voters are in favour of "dislike" too.

Will the votes be counted like that? I thought that each option stood by itself and that the one with the most votes would be adopted.

But I do get your point that for number of voters, there are more who favour one flavour of the system than dislike the system completely.

Well the way I'm reading it at the moment it stands at:
23
9
28

That's 32 people that want to be able to like
9 People that want to be able to dislike
28 People that don't want to be able to do either

I don't know how the mods are going to do this but that is how I would :)

Not many votes though really - 60 isn't very representative of the 18000+ members we have
Yes, but I'd be surprised if you had more than a number in the high hundreds of actually active members (excluding the folks who restrict themselves to the marketplace).

EDIT: Can't the new board version set site announcements like the earlier one? Failing that, a mass admin e-mail should get people's attention (I wouldn't be surprised many are oblivious to the fact this discussion is going on),

Fair enough, but it could then be argued that the poll offers two options in favour versus only one against, which is not, after all, fair enough :) :)

Good point we also need a dislike only option :)

I'd say that you are misreading it with a bias to a particular view. You might as well say that the first and the third are the same because they are both against negs but that would also be a biased reading.

I think this is wrong and I dislike it :)

Indeed, but it would be more informative
But what is it informing anyone of exactly? How easy it is to accidentally click on something close to the scroll bar?

I've voted to get rid of the whole kit and caboodle. It's already clear some people are taking the whole thing waaaay too seriously, and aren't even sure what this 'repuatation'* is meant to denote.

*Actually, with spelling like that it's no wonder.

How dare can anyone vote to reputate people on "internet face value" ? I say get rid of the reputation system as it is POINTLESS. It's only when you meet a man and see what he is really like that you can form an opinion, not on a silly forum (not saying this forum is silly, mind you) I mean not on an internet social site where what's behind the screen can be either good or evil.

I voted for like only.

However, just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons, and probably to the detriment of the "like campaign" for which I've voted, I'd prefer that we had no like/dislike system than we have dislike buttons.

In order of preference.

1) Likes only
2) No Like System
3) Like / Dislike.

I 'liked' the previous like system, but I thought it was about liking a post, not the person posting it. I might disagree with someone - for example on a flatwound/woundwound, slapping/non-slapping or pick/fingers discussion, but that doesn't mean I think any less of the person.

When the 'like' option was replaced with the up/down arrows I thought it was a step backwards - especially if it keeps running total across all posts

Aherm. Works the same with a woman too. :)

And yes, of course you're correct. However, you do get a glimpse of what each person is like from the way they write - it may take a little while, but even your most monosyllabic posts contribute to creating an image of you for those who take the time to notice.

I am a member of several local forums, and we have regular real life meetups, and my impressions of each poster's character have been relatively correct so far. It's harder to imagine someone's physical aspect (unless they provide a photo), but sometimes you can sort of guess that too!
